Thoughts From a Successful Insurance Agent

The Hows and Whys of My Journey as an Insurance Professional.

An Interview:

What prompted you to enter the insurance profession?

A friend of mine uses a certain reputable independent insurance agency and he heard through the grapevine that they were in need of more agents. I was in the market for a try, so I called the agency and I went in for the job interview. Since then, it’s been a genuine partnership.

What sort of schooling was required of you?

I had to undergo a forty-hour insurance agent course that taught me about the related legalities of the insurance world. I then took the NJ exam and passed. I graduated the course as a licensed insurance agent. But the chief tutoring came on the job. The agency management bent head over heels, so to speak, for me to learn the ropes as far as insurance sales go. At first, they assigned someone to accompany me as I met and solicit business through walk-ins or cold calls. Nothing compares to being walked through the insurance agent process than being proctored by someone with decades in the business. That experience really brought me to the level of expertise that went henceforth to success in the industry.

So, the agency was encouraging and accommodating from day one?

One bold word in capitalized letters: YES! Getting the support from such an upstanding award-winning agency that does direct business with scores of the leading underwriters in the country was the driving force that got me where I am today.

How did your impression of insurance change since becoming a professional insurance specialist?

I never thought into it before, but virtually anything in life needs insurance – from car driving to house owning to running a commercial enterprise or non-profit. Becoming an insurance professional has made me aware of the great impact I can have on a person’s life.

Now that you have been in the business for a good amount of years, what strikes you as an important aspect in regard to the agency a person chooses to acquire a policy from?

I’d say on the whole, it is how a given agency projects itself to the public and the manner in which the agency’s employees interact with customers that is so telling about the upper level in the company. An agency, like the one in which I am privileged to work for, that gives respect to staff members and clients, displays a working knowledge about the wide array of differing policies, and a passion for serving customers individual needs is the one I’d recommend as a go-to place for those seeking insurance coverage.

Do you have any tips to those that may have an interest in the field?

I sure do. For those that find a calling to assisting others and bettering their lives, the insurance field is definitely something to consider. Though there are pitfalls as in any niche in the business world, it’s a worthwhile endeavor.

Understanding Action-Over Claims for the Contractor

Ask a few contractors. They’ll nod their heads in agreement: Contractor insurance seems to cost more and more, particularly in states that side with the laborer. Ask an insurance agent and you’ll get an earful about the causes.

Some state legislature in regard to labor disputes are predisposed to the worker. It’s for this reason that insurance companies will end up paying more in defense and liability costs if there is a worker that gets injured at your site. And it’s for this reason, the premium is higher.

General contractors operating in these places, as well as property managers – among others like them that hire subcontractors – need to think about getting another form of insurance in regard to worker accident liability. While it’s true that this insurance, known as action-over claims, adds to already high premium costs, in the event there’s a third-party injury claim and the commercial general liability policy excludes this type of claim, coverage means everything.

Action-over claims insurance protects you if your worker or the subcontractor’s worker incurs injury and then collects worker comp benefits – and then targets a liability claim against the property owner who then casts the liability back to you.

Action-Over Claim – What it Means

Here’s an example that may help explain the insurance idea.

Do-All Property Management Company put its signature on an indemnification agreement provided by an apartment complex it was assigned to oversee. The agreement meant all job risks were the responsibility of Do-All.

It so happened that a painter slipped off his ladder. The accident resulted in a serious breakage of both legs. The painter needed money right away to take care of expensive doctor bills, hospital stays and loss of income so he filed a workers compensation claim with his boss – Do-All’s subcontractor.

Now, the painter needed a venue for further compensation. He knew that suing his boss was out of the question because he had already collected workers comp benefits from him. He was advised to file a multi-million lawsuit against the apartment complex owner. Once the apartment complex owner was notified about the suit, he contacted Do-All Property Management who as per the indemnity agreement was now responsible for the liability.

In the event Do-All had the foresight to include action-over claims coverage with his commercial general liability policy, there would be protection and peace of mind. On the other side of the coin, in the event there was an action-over claims exclusion on the Do-All business policy, the management company would find itself in ‘hot water’ with the need to pay total out of pocket third-party charges.

To find out more about this important coverage for the general contractor and industries like him or her, contact an experienced independent agency.

How Credit Insurance Helps the Distributor

An Authentic Report in regard to Specialized Insurance for the Distributor

A standard business insurance policy usually consists of general liability, including fire and workers comp coverage. What many may not realize though is that there is protection beyond the typical that a business may be in need of.

An insurance specialist affiliated with an independent agency highlighted this chain of thinking to a client once.

“Do you realize,” he began while engaging the man, “there is insurance that can cover a business risk from A to Z! Our agency is especially tuned in to finding all-encompassing coverage for specific risk exposure that we may note in a particular company or organization. Businesses would be surprised at the extent of coverage actually available.”

Then the insurance agent continued with a light discourse about the client’s father’s distributing business and how credit insurance can help those in the industry.

Unlike others that use an immediate payment system in business, the distributor often allows those he deals with to postpone payment. The credit system may be necessary to retain his customers, but in the event a merchant that takes advantage of the payment mode does not end up paying, the distributor can find himself in deep trouble that may lead to financial ruin. After all, the nature of the business relies on cash flow: the distributor uses the payment he receives from the vendors to purchase more merchandise; without money to do this, the business may be destined to a partial or complete standstill.

If a distributor has credit insurance, however, there is protection against the failure to pay risk. Should a distributor be faced with non-payment, the coverage will cover his bills! Furthermore, credit insurance (also known as trade credit insurance) offers numerous other advantages.

Credit Insurance allows the distributor to:

• Continue selling to regular customers and increase business through new customers, regardless of the possible payment risks that may be
• Cultivate more customers
• Have access to business monies
• Benefit from enhanced lending terms offered by banks
• Receive tax breaks from paid credit insurance premiums
• Use offered info and risk management that comes with the credit policy to aid in credit loss prevention

After listening to the insurance specialists lesson about credit insurance, the client made the connection with another distributor. As is generally the case, this distributor was worried about credit risks. Following an analysis of his business and the inherent exposures he had, the man decided to go for the related coverage, customized to his needs.

Strengthening and Enforcing Our Profession

In order to be an effective project manager (PM), we should look at our definition of project management. Definitions surprisingly vary greatly by organization and individual. We should be careful about calling something project management that really is not. Doing so often confuses the profession. Call it what it is. If a position is more administrative, add this label. If a position is more holistic with overall responsibility and leadership for the success of the project, I’d be more inclined to call it project management. Well defined roles are not only essential for the organization and individual, but for the profession at large.

If someone is used to providing project leadership and overall project responsibility under a PM title, certain expectations are set. If the next opportunity doesn’t provide the same opportunities and expectations both the organization and individual may experience issues. Likewise if someone is in a lower level position where they simply schedule meetings and follow-up on action items, this individual may develop an inappropriate perception of project management. Remember, a true PM is responsible for all aspects of the project, including management of scope, time, cost, quality, procurement, human resources, communication, risk management, stakeholder management, and integration. I’d even take this list a step further and involve the PM in scope discussions during business development. It’s never too early to involve the person responsible for high stakes efforts.

Other pet peeves of mine are a lack of analysis and a lack of communication skills. Project management isn’t about producing reports or documents, but managing to ensure project success. Project data is necessary to ensure success, but without analysis and interpretation it is strictly administrative data. I’m also often amazed at the lack of communication in project management. Strong PMs spend eighty to ninety percent of their time communicating. This doesn’t mean just forwarding emails, but providing impact analysis and recommendations. And my final pet peeve (for this posting!) centers on improperly handling situations by escalating all items or informing all parties of all developments. This goes along with communication. Determine your stakeholders and how you will interact with those stakeholders. It may be easier to copy everyone involved, but it’s not about what is easy.

Ways to Create a Powerful Website Design

For businesses to grow and be successful they need a website since this is among the most effective tools to realize their goal. This is also the way to draw potential customers to the products and/or services they offer. In addition, this has a wider reach compared to other marketing methods without their high startup costs. Businesses can consider the following tips to create a powerful web design.

Take Advantage of Visual Hierarchy

The term visual hierarchy refers to the arrangement of website elements like the color, font size, white space and position to put emphasis on the primary point for every page. In order to complement a call to action (CTA), it is important to direct the eyes of visitors to something they want done by means of these visual factors.

To highlight their landing page’s central theme, they can do the following:

Make the font size larger.
Place the text at the top part of the window.
Choose a contrasting color since this stands out from the rest of the page.
Include a captivating graphic or video making use of the latest innovative web design trends.
Use white space so it will stick out from other text.

Use Minimalism

Businesses should use and integrate the above mentioned elements on the website but they have to keep in mind that this should be done in moderation. If this is overdone, this will cause cluttering, which will make customers confused or even worse, discouraged.

Also, they should not let visitors complete many tasks. They should minimize form fields as well as menu items and only focus on one CTA that has one goal per page.

According to a Google study, users do not like visual complexity. There are ways to simplify a site such as:

Eliminate the Sidebar – rather than have readers click on information on the sidebar, the process can be made easier by taking away this element and just create a very long page. In this way, they will be able to scroll through the content and scan everything, raising the possibility that the message of the brand will be conveyed.

Go for Familiar Layouts – while they may think that an unusual site design will set their domain apart from the rest of the competition, visitors are actually attracted to simple layouts with easy to understand icons and effects. Also, using a regular web structure can improve navigation on their site.

Prioritize Readability

Businesses should consider readability to make it easy for users to recognize and comprehend the text on their site. Prioritizing this factor will make sure that users will not have a difficult time in scanning their site and will remember the information they want to be retained. They should use the most ideal typeface, font size and contrasting colors for their brand.

Conclusion

Websites are important since these provide prospects with information on the business, which includes the office address, email address and phone numbers.

In addition, websites enable businesses to build and establish credibility in their niche of choice by being a source they can trust and rely on. The best SEO strategies and relevant content will help establish their authority in their industry making use of their domain and most especially, a powerful website.
